Is CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser right for your skin?

Best for

  • Dry or dehydrated skin that feels tight or flaky after a foaming face wash

  • Sensitive or easily irritated skin that needs a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser

  • Skin using retinol, exfoliating acids or acne products that has become dry

  • Cold, dry winter months and air-conditioned rooms that leave skin rough

Skip it, or patch-test first, if

  • Your skin is very oily and you like a squeaky-clean feel: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser lathers and removes more oil

  • You wear heavy or waterproof makeup: remove it with an oil cleanser or makeup remover first

  • You want a cleanser that helps with breakouts or blackheads: CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser contains salicylic acid

How do you use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser?

Morning

  1. Massage a small amount onto damp skin for 30–60 seconds; it will not foam.

  2. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry, leaving skin slightly damp.

  3. Apply a moisturiser such as CeraVe Moisturising Lotion, then sunscreen.

Evening

  1. If you wore heavy sunscreen or makeup, use an oil cleanser first.

  2. Wash with the Hydrating Cleanser and rinse well.

  3. Apply your serum, then seal with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream if your skin is dry.

Very dry skin in winter can skip the morning wash and simply rinse with water, using the Hydrating Cleanser only at night.

What are the key ingredients in CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser?

  • Ceramides NP, AP and EOP — CeraVe's 3 essential ceramides, lipids that support the skin barrier while you cleanse

  • Hyaluronic acid — holds water in the skin so it does not feel tight after rinsing

  • Glycerin — a humectant that draws moisture into the skin and keeps it comfortable

  • Gentle, non-foaming cleansers — lift dirt and light makeup without the stripping feel of a strong lather

Why doesn't CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser foam, and does it still clean properly?

Foam comes from the type and amount of cleansing agents in a formula. The Hydrating Cleanser uses gentle, low-foaming cleansers on purpose, so it removes dirt, sweat and light makeup without taking too much of your skin's natural oil with it. No lather does not mean less clean. Massage it in for 30–60 seconds and rinse well. If you wear heavy or waterproof makeup, remove it first with an oil cleanser, then use this as your second cleanse.
